Alphonse Mucha, an artist and poster illustrator was born in 1860 in the town of IvanĨice. He started his career as an illustrator in Paris in 1894. His works are easily recognizable as the use of bright colours, depictions of beautiful women and stunning, highly decorative backgrounds are the key aspects that made his artworks iconic and unique. Because of his beautiful style and the aesthetic portrayed in his works, his talents were discovered by a legendary actress, Sarah Bernhardt who then commissioned him to design a poster for a Greek melodrama that she was a part of. As the poster gained its popularity, many discovered Mucha's stunning artworks through it and were inspired by it. Thus, a new form of art style known as Art Nouveau was born.
