What Are "Fake Artists"?

https://weheartit.com/entry/318605255

Art, as one of the most common methods of expression, takes in different forms and are easily accessible to anyone who shows interest in pursuing in the artistic field either as a hobby or a career. However, as newer art forms emerged from the growing influence of online media and technology, many controversies broke out between those who are inspired by the newer forms of artistic expressions and those who believe that art can only be done in a traditional manner. The society sets up a standard for what is to be considered as "art", and criticizes those who do not follow the traditional and rather stereotypical notions of artistic forms. Thus, the title "fake artists" began spreading among the art community.

Art isn't a concept that can be defined easily, and to disapprove and discourage artists who wish to experience art with unique and newly found styles or methods by making judgements based on a rigid "definition" will lead to impactful consequences that will certainly harm artists and the art community.

Furthermore, beginner artists and young artists are especially vulnerable to such judgements as they often struggle to receive the recognition of others and developing a style of their own. Such accusations will lead young artists to feel less passionate and confident in what they are interested in doing or make them give up on their dreams altogether. In addition, art should not be exclusive to only individuals that show interest in a specific art form. Since the art community is full of artists with a diverse range of styles, concepts, and methods of creation, to limit the definition of art into a simple concept is simply impossible as all artists eventually find their own ways of artistic expression that is constructed by their personal experiences. Nonetheless, many people still believe that art can only be presented either in a realistic or abstract style as it was mainly portrayed as such infamous art pieces done by well-known and impactful artists in history. However, this type of thinking is slowly poisoning the artist community as it restricts the freedom of aspiring artists of today. And as Robert Motherwell, a successful painter and printmaker who studied philosophy at Harvard University and taught as a leading art theorist at Black Mountain College and Hunter College once said: "Art is an experience, not an object." The definition of art should not be seen as one single thing, but rather found in the experiences of each artist as the process is worth much more than what is presented at the end.

To conclude, the controversy surrounding "fake artists" is formed by society's traditional standards as it is enforced on newer and emerging forms of art. To prevent the situation from escalating, some actions need to be taken, such as supporting artists, especially beginner and young artists by giving out encouragement and advice. The situation will eventually dissolve as time passes since society will learn to accept new things when they get used to it; however, it is important to handle the accusations and the people behind it with a reasonable attitude and clear explanations as it will represent the artist community of today.
